What is Reiki?

Quantum Physics has proven that at the finest and most basic level, everything in existence is composed of energy. Universal Energy is the fundamental building block of creation. Everything in the Universe is created out of Universal Energy vibrating at different rates. Even thoughts and feelings are made of Universal Energy. Universal Energy also incorporates the essence of abundance because once we are attuned to it, it is available to us in infinite supply. It is given freely and it never runs out. In its higher forms, Universal Energy can be transmitted like radio waves, from one place to another.

We all have internal energy channels and we all already have Universal life-force energy flowing through these channels in our bodies. This is what sustains us. But the energy channels in the average person tend to be blocked up to some extent and the flow of Universal Energy through them tends not to be powerful enough to be perceivable. Therefore, most people are not aware of this energy and are not able to work with it.

Natural Healing systems have been developed that help to open and clear the energy channels in the body. They also help to increase the flow and raise the vibration of Universal Energy in the body. These systems include methods for applying this energy to heal ourselves and others.

One of the most well known of these Natural Healing systems is Reiki. Reiki was developed in Japan and Reiki is a Japanese word meaning “Spiritually guided Universal life-force energy”. Reiki is primarily used to give hands-on treatments. The energy is channelled through the hands into the receiver, where it goes to work to heal on the physical, emotional mental and spiritual levels. The Reiki energy operates automatically under the guidance of the receiver’s own Higher Consciousness and always works for the receiver’s Highest Good.

Other natural healing therapies such as acupuncture, qigong, shiatsu, and yoga also aim to restore balance in an individual’s biofield. Reiki appears to be the subtlest of these therapies, balancing the recipient through subtle Reiki vibrations rather than through manipulation or even the gentlest force. It is also possible that Reiki, which some practitioners consider more like meditation than to energy therapies, does not originate in the biofield, but rather arises from an even subtler source: what physicists have termed the unified field.

Reiki practitioners do not diagnose and do not deliberately reorganize the biofield. The Reiki practitioner’s hands are still for most of the treatment, moving only to change hand placements. The Reiki practitioner is neutral, making no attempt to fix the recipient or to change the biofield. Additionally, the practitioner does not in any way control Reiki energy; she/he merely rests her hands lightly on the body (or just above the body if needed). Reiki energy in the practitioner’s hands arises spontaneously in response to the individual recipient’s need for balance at that particular time. In this way, each Reiki treatment is automatically tailored to the immediate need of that particular recipient, even though the practitioner may use the same sequence of hand placements for each treatment.

Reiki is optimally given in a full treatment format but can also be administered in treatments to a specific area or areas of the body. In urgent situations, just moments of Reiki touch can be soothing.

Documented research evidence has shown that Reiki healing helps to lower heart rate, blood pressure, and stress hormones, and offer increased immune strength.

Reiki healing provides a healing space whereby individuals can connect with who they really are and connect with their higher self. This, in turn, can bring about further clarity, understanding and self-love.
