Yoga in the Workplace – You Won’t Regret it!

It’s easy to get stuck behind your desk at work, but the Lollipop team were not willing to use that as an excuse for poor posture.

It all began with slumping…

As he looked around the office, Jon, our Director, noticed poor posture and was deeply bothered by it.

“When we took on staff, I noticed how people were slumping at their desks and it bothered me. Young backs need care too!”

Sitting in the same position all day can cause people to round their shoulders and sink into their chairs. This is linked to health problems such as poor digestion and circulation, as well as bad backs!

Taking Action with a Posture Professional

As a first step, we consulted a Workplace Posture Professional who provided us with tips to improve the way we sat at our desks and how our equipment was positioned.

Over the following weeks, the team noticed an incredible reduction in their complaints of back pain and stiff shoulders. Encouraged, we wanted to continue improving our posture. So we turned to yoga!

Implementing Yoga in the Workplace

Initially, Lollipop received support from Angela Squires of Southend Council’s Responsibility Deal. They provide six free yoga lessons to see if it works for your business. We jumped on this opportunity!

But we needed somewhere to hold the classes!

Which is when we learned that, in addition to regular evening classes in Pilates and Yoga, Louise from the Body Matters was encouraging local businesses to hire out their studio during the day. With a spacious, convenient room available, Lollipop were able to integrate yoga into the workplace!
